The Blues have been linked with a potential swoop to sign the Inter Milan captain in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The Argentina international was omitted from his national team’s squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Icardi scored a staggering 29 goals in 30 games in Serie A last term to finish at the top of the Italian league’s goal-scoring charts.
The South American forward has netted 100 times in 159 games in Serie A over the past four seasons.
Former Liverpool FC defender Nicol believes Icardi would be a good addition to help out Hazard in the Chelsea FC team.
“Chelsea need someone else other than Hazard who can change a game,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“I think this will happen. It is a question of money. It would be a great move to get Chelsea back in the top four.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.
Icardi has missed out on Champions League football during his stint with Inter so he might be reluctant to spend another season out of Europe’s top tier competition.
