Insider claims Chelsea FC resigned to losing 26-year-old star
Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge reveals Chelsea FC expect to lose Thibaut Courtois this summer
Chelsea FC aren’t hopeful of keeping Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge, according to reporter Michael Bridge.
The Belgium international has refused to sign a new contract with the west London side despite having less than 12 months to run on his current deal.
Courtois has been regularly linked with a move to Real Madrid over the past few seasons as los Blancos look to sign an upgrade on Keylor Navas.
The 26-year-old spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid before he returned to Chelsea FC to take over the number one spot from Petr Cech.
Courtois has blossomed into one of the world’s best goalkeepers at Stamford Bridge after winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
However, the Blues shot stopper’s two children and ex girlfriend are living in the Spanish capital to give Courtois one big reason to force a return to Madrid.
Sky Sports News reporter Bridge claimed that the Blues are feeling pessimistic about their chances of keeping the Belgium international beyond the current transfer window.
“It is similar to the Sanchez situation at Arsenal,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“When you have a year left on your contract, the club loses its power. He loves Madrid. It sounds like he misses Madrid. Chelsea aren’t hopeful of renegotiating with Courtois. It is a slight mess.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot for the second time in three seasons.
