Liverpool FC are long-term admirers of Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Duncan Castles.
The Switzerland international has been regularly linked with a potential transfer to the the Champions League runners up over the past few weeks.
Shaqiri netted eight goals in 36 games in the Premier League last term but the Potters forward couldn’t prevent Stoke from suffering relegation to England’s second tier.
Stoke signed the 26-year-old in a £12m deal from Serie A side Inter Milan in 2015 and the Potters are thought to be eager to recoup that fee.
Liverpool FC have been left frustrated in their pursuit of Nabil Fekir after the France international’s medical shed light on some issues.
Sunday Times reporter Castles shed light on Liverpool FC’s pursuit of the Switzerland international from relegated Stoke.
“He is a player they have tried to sign in the past,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“Liverpool tend to identify players on statistical performance in the field. Once they’ve identified them they pursue them for some time and eventually get them. Salah and Mane is proof of that.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev following goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.
Liverpool FC signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco earlier in the summer transfer window.
