The new Liverpool FC signing confirms he spoke to Sadio Mane ahead of a move to Anfield
Naby Keita has revealed that he spoke to Sadio Mane before he completed a move to Liverpool FC.
The Reds officially announced Keita as a Reds player on Wednesday evening after Liverpool FC agreed to a £48m deal with Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Keita spent the 2017-18 season at RB Leipzig ahead of his switch to Liverpool FC and the dynamic midfielder was named in the Europa League team of the campaign for his impressive performances in Europe.
Liverpool FC already have three African players in Jurgen Klopp’s squad in the shape of former Schalke defender Joel Matip, Senegal international Mane and PFA player of the year Mohamed Salah.
And Keita revealed that he spoke to Mane about a potential switch to Liverpool FC before the box-to-box midfielder finalised a switch tot the Anfield outfit.
“I chose Liverpool because it is a team I watched often – and I also spoke a lot about it with Sadio [Mane]. He told me a lot about the team and the club,” Keita told Liverpool FC’s website.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table and reached the Champions League final in Jurgen Klopp’s second full season in charge.
The Reds have only signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco this summer.
Liverpool FC sold Philippe Coutinho in a £142m move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the 2018 January transfer window.
