The 25-year-old ended up being one of European football’s top performing stars this season after having joined Liverpool FC from AS Roma in the summer transfer window last year.
Salah ended up scoring 44 goals in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s men to help the Reds finish in fourth place in the Premier League table and book their spot in the Champions League final.
The Egypt international’s season ended in disappointing fashion when he suffered a shoulder injury in the first half of the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid last month.
Salah is now facing a race against time to be fit for the World Cup with Egypt as he looks to help them enjoy a successful tournament.
Coutinho played alongside Salah for six months before the Brazilian left Liverpool FC to sign for FC Barcelona in the January transfer window.
And the Brazilian playmaker is tipping the likes of Salah and Neymar to step up at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Coutinho is quoted as saying by Metro: “Messi and Ronaldo have been up there on their own for so many years.
“I think it may be time for other players to aspire to be the best in the world – and the best at this World Cup, too.
“For me, Salah and Neymar have serious chances to do that. It depends on how the tournament goes, of course, but they have the talent to do it. Those are the players I would pick out.
“He [Salah] can do well in the World Cup – it all depends on how far his team can go. But we also know what Neymar can bring. He is a special player.”
Salah will be hoping to help Liverpool FC challenge for the Premier League title next season.
