Lyon chief offers Liverpool FC fresh hope of signing Nabil Fekir
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says Liverpool FC could still conclude a deal to sign Nabil Fekir this summer
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has refused to rule out the possibility of Liverpool FC completing a deal to sign Nabil Fekir this summer.
The Merseyside outfit were thought to be on the verge of concluding a deal to bring the France international to Anfield earlier this month, but the proposed move fell through at the final hour.
Lyon then issued a statement proclaiming that the 24-year-old Fekir would definitely be staying with the Ligue 1 club for next season, seemingly ending Liverpool FC’s hopes of signing him.
However, the speculation linking Fekir with a move to Anfield has continued recently, and now Lyon president Aulas has appeared to have given Liverpool FC fresh hope of being able to conclude a deal to sign the attacking midfielder this summer.
Speaking in an interview quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Aulas said: “Nothing is ever completely over in the footballing world,” he said. “Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool. At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.
“If Nabil was to start in the World Cup final, I am thinking about Nabil, about his future, about his family, because I especially like his dad and the entire environment.
“He has an agent in Jean-Pierre Bernes of the highest quality. You should not worry, I think that Nabil’s career is going to be even greater if he stays at Lyon, but it will not be me who decides.”
Liverpool FC have already confirmed their first signing of the summer after tying up a deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Fabinho to the club from Monaco.
The Reds will be looking to try and challenge for the Premier League title next season after they ended up in fourth place and without a trophy last term.
Liverpool FC are still looking to try and win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
