Naby Keita will take the number eight shirt at Liverpool FC from next season, according to reports in the British media.

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that the Guinea international is set to be handed Steven Gerrard’s old number at Anfield when he officially becomes a Liverpool FC player on 1 July.

Keita’s deal to move to Liverpool FC from RB Leipzig was agreed last summer, and he is set to officially become a Reds player at the start of next month.

The same story says that Keita arrived on Merseyside over the weekend to prepare for life at Anfield as he looks ahead to his first season as a Liverpool FC player.

According to the same report, the midfielder will report for the first day of pre-season training on 2 July as he links up with Jurgen Klopp’s team for the first time.

The same story says that Keita requested to be handed the number eight shirt by the Reds, and that the Merseyside outfit are yet to officially announce his new squad number.

The number eight shirt has been vacant at Liverpool FC since Gerrard left the Merseyside club in the summer of 2015.
