Liverpool FC won’t sign Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in the summer transfer window, Vinny O’Connor has insisted.

The Merseyside outfit are in the market to sign a new shot stopper this summer following Loris Karius’ disappointing performance in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid.

The Germany Under-21 international made two big mistakes in the Champions League final in Kiev to raise questions about his long-term future as Liverpool FC’s number one.

The Reds have been linked with some big names such as AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak in the current transfer window.

Liverpool FC have other areas that need to be improved this summer so the Reds could look at more affordable options like Stoke City shot stopper Jack Butland.

Southampton number two McCarthy has been touted as a possible contender to replace Karius in the Liverpool FC goalkeeper ahead of the new Premier League season.

Sky Sports News reporter O’Connor doesn’t anticipate Liverpool FC signing McCarthy in the summer transfer window due to his lack of experience at a top club.

“They have been linked with McCarthy,” O’Connor told the Transfer Talk podcast. “But does he have the necessary experience to go into a situation like Liverpool?”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table in successive seasons under former Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp.
