Steve Nicol urges Liverpool FC to spend £80 on 25-year-old
The Liverpool FC legend wants to see the Reds spend £80m on sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker
Steve Nicol has urged Liverpool FC to spend £80m on securing Alisson Becker’s signature from AS Roma.
The Brazil international has emerged as one of the top targets for the Merseyside outfit in the current transfer window.
Alisson has established himself as a top goalkeeper during the past two seasons at Serie A giants AS Roma.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last weekend.
Karius made two mistakes to allow Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to find the net in a resounding win for the defending champions.
The Liverpool FC goalkeeper has made improvements to his game over the past few months after replacing Simon Mignolet as number one.
Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Klopp stuck with Karius despite an uncertain start to his Liverpool FC career in the 2016-17 campaign.
However, Karius’ recent blunders may have spelt the end of his time as Liverpool FC’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Asked whether Liverpool FC should match Virgil van Dijk’s transfer fee to secure Alisson’s signature, Reds legend Nicol said:
“In a heartbeat (I’d spend 80m). We mulled over the price tag of Van Dijk.
“Liverpool was transformed with Van Dijk. Imagine what would happen with Alisson. If you have the money, you spend it if you get the opportunity.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title in their history but will be hoping to end that record next season.
