AS Roma director offers Liverpool FC encouragement in Alisson race
Liverpool FC target Alisson Becker could be sold, Roma sporting director Monchi has admitted
AS Roma have admitted that Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker isn’t “unsellable” in the summer transfer window amid interest from Liverpool FC and Real Madrid.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign the AS Roma goalkeeper over the past few months.
However, La Liga giants Real Madrid were thought to have moved ahead of the Merseyside outfit in the race to sign Alisson this summer.
But Roma sporting director Monchi has admitted that Alisson could leave this summer.
“There’s no such thing anywhere in the world as an unsellable player,” Monci said.
“The perfect answer would be to say that he’s unsellable, but I can’t say that because such a player doesn’t exist.
“If someone came in with €500m (£440m) for Pastore, maybe he would leave. There is no team in the world that can talk about unsellable players.”
Liverpool FC haven’t had a world class goalkeeper since Pepe Reina left the Anfield outfit under Brendan Rodgers in 2013.
The 18-time English champions signed Simon Mignolet five seasons ago, before Jurgen Klopp recruited Loris Karius from Mainz in 2016.
However, Mignolet and Karius have both struggled to impress in the Liverpool FC goal to fuel transfer speculation.
Karius made two high profile mistakes in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak has also been linked with Liverpool FC but the Slovenian and Alisson would both command big fees.
Jasper Cillissen would represent a more affordable option for Liverpool FC given the Dutch goalkeeper is out of favour at FC Barcelona.
