Insider warns Liverpool FC will struggle to sign Alisson Becker before World Cup
ESPN FC reporter Gabriele Marcotti believes Liverpool FC will find it difficult to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the current transfer window
Gabriele Marcotti believes AS Roma will be reluctant to sell Liverpool FC target Alisson Becker during the World Cup.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a potential swoop to sign the Brazil number one goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Becker has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the past two seasons at the Italian club.
The 25-year-old helped AS Roma to reach the Champions League final before the Rome outfit lost 7-6 to Liverpool FC in the semi-finals.
Liverpool FC’s current number one Loris Karius made two big mistakes in their 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last month.
Karius has failed to convince since his £4.7m move to Liverpool FC from Mainz 05 last summer to raise questions about his future at the Merseyside outfit.
ESPN FC pundit Marcotti confirmed AS Roma will try to avoid selling Alisson until after the World Cup.
“AS Roma already helped Liverpool FC out with Mo Salah last year,” Marcotti told ESPN FC.
“They don’t want to let another world beater get away. From Roma’s point of view, it makes sense to wait until after the World Cup and see what kind of tournament he has.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to ensure the Reds will continue to participate in the Champions League.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
