The Reds were believed to be on the verge of tying up a deal to bring the 24-year-old France international to Anfield from Lyon but the move fell through over the weekend.
Lyon appeared to end Liverpool FC’s hopes of signing the attacking midfielder this summer by issuing a statement claiming that Fekir will be staying with the French club for next season.
However, Daily Mirror reporter Maddock has now claimed that a deal for Fekir could still be on the cards this summer, despite suggestions to the contrary.
Maddock also says that Liverpool FC are strongly considering a move for Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri, but any move for the Switzerland international would not be done as an alternative to Fekir.
Maddock wrote on Twitter: “Liverpool move closer to potential deal for Xherdan Shaqiri after World Cup. He’s NOT an alternative to Nail Fekir though…seen as quality back up to @LFC front line.
“Still slim chance of Fekir deal being revived next month.”
Liverpool FC are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
The Reds finished fourth in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season.
