Liverpool FC were considering a move to sign West Ham striker Manuel Lanzini before his injury setback, according to Vinny O’Connor.

The Argentina international has been one of the east London side’s most impressive players over the past two seasons under Slaven Bilic and David Moyes.

Lanzini has been regularly linked with a move to Liverpool FC over the past few transfer windows but a deal has failed to materialise.

Liverpool FC sold Philippe Coutinho in a £142m move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the 2018 January transfer window.

The Reds have funds to invest in a new attacker following the Brazil international’s move to the Catalan side earlier this year.

Liverpool FC were thought to be close to a deal to sign Nabil Fekir before a deal fell through last week.

Sky Sports News reporter O’Connor claimed that Liverpool FC were interested in Lanzini before his injury setback.

“They had other targets,” O’Connor told the Transfer Talk podcast. “They looked at Lanzini but now he is out with an ACL injury.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League after a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the final.
