Jurgen Klopp is “obssessed” with Marco Asensio as Liverpool FC look to sign the Real Madrid star this summer, according to a report in Spain.

Local Madrid media outlet TeleMadrid, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that the former Borussia Dortmund head coach is a big admirer of the Spain international.

The same article states that the Reds are ready to submit a £44m offer to sign the Real Madrid playmaker in the summer transfer window.

According to the same story, Klopp believes Asensio is the right candidate to replace the void left by Philippe Coutinho in the middle of the park at Anfield.

Liverpool FC sold the Brazil international in a British record £142m transfer to Real Madrid’s bitter rivals FC Barcelona in the 2018 January transfer window.

The Reds have only dipped into the Anfield coffers to sign Brazil international Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco this summer so far.

Asensio scored six goals and made six assists in 19 starts and 13 substitute appearances in La Liga last term.

The Spanish playmaker contributed one goal and one assist in 12 games in the Champions League as los Blancos eased to a 3-1 win against Liverpool FC in the final in Kiev last month.
