Lyon president reveals how Nabil Fekir reacted to failed Liverpool FC move
Lyon president Jean Michael Aulas reveals how Nabil Fekir reacted to his collapsed move to Liverpool FC
Nabil Fekir reacted calmly to his move to Liverpool FC collapsing earlier this summer, according to Lyon president Jean Michael Aulas.
The Reds were close to securing a deal to sign the France international in a big-money deal from Lyon in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC were thought to be ready to pay in excess of £60m to sign the French striker to further strengthen their attacking options.
The Merseyside outfit were concerned about Fekir’s knee problem and Liverpool FC attempted to renegotiate the deal.
The 18-time English champions are thought to have looked at other options in the summer transfer market.
Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to be linked with a swoop to sign Fekir this summer despite pulling out of the race to sign the French playmaker.
Lyon president Aulas has shed light on how Fekir reacted to his collapsed move to Liverpool FC in the current transfer window.
“I spoke with Nabil Fekir the day after the night when we decided to stop negotiations with Liverpool,” Aulas told Le Parisien.
“He was very calm. I immediately said to him that if he wanted to stay, we could do an extension.
“I’ve said it before, we don’t need to sell. We have the capacity to keep Fekir. ‘The current plan is to let nobody leave to have the best team possible and to make signings as previously planned.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season after the Reds finished ahead of Chelsea FC in the race to finish in the Champions League spots.
The Merseyside outfit signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £40m from AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.
