The Reds suffered a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final last month to extend their wait to win a first trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
Loris Karius made two big mistakes in the European Cup showpiece to allow Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to find the back of the net in Kiev.
The German shot stopper appeared to have turned a corner at the Anfield outfit following a slow start to his Liverpool FC career following his £4.7m move from Bindesliga side Mainz 05 in 2016.
Karius started the 2017-18 season as Liverpool FC’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Simon Mignolet but the 24-year-old managed to battle his way into Klopp’s starting XI in the second half of the campaign.
The former Manchester City shot stopper impressed in victories over FC Porto, the Citizens and AS Roma before a night to forget in Kiev.
Former Liverpool FC striker Fowler wants Klopp to invest in a new goalkeeper despite feeling some sympathy for Karius.
“I felt for Loris Karius, and I don’t want to crucify him. But if you are there in these big games, then you have to be ready to perform. And obviously he didn’t,” Fowler told the Daily Mirror.
“I’m sure it is a position Klopp will look at now. He needs to.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League to secure Champions League football for a second successive season.
