Xherdan Shaqiri replies when asked about Liverpool FC transfer talk
Stoke star Xherdan Shaqiri responds to Liverpool FC transfer speculation ahead of Switzerland's World Cup opener against Brazil
Xherdan Shaqiri has remained coy when asked about a potential move to Liverpool FC this summer.
The Switzerland international has been linked with a potential switch to the Anfield outfit over the past couple of weeks.
Liverpool FC were thought to be closing in on a swoop to sign Lyon’s highly-rated Nabil Fekir in their second summer transfer deal.
However, the Reds pulled out of a deal due to concerns about Fekir’s past knee injuries to leave the Reds contemplating alternatives in the current transfer window.
Shaqiri was unable to help the Potters avoid relegation to the Championship last term following the Swiss star’s inconsistent season.
The 26-year-old scored eight goals and made seven assists in 36 appearances in the Premier League last season.
Asked about Liverpool FC’s apparent interest in the Switzerland international ahead of the World Cup, Shaqiri replied:
“I do not know why you’re talking about Liverpool right now.
“I can not say at the moment. There I have my advisors, my brother looks for my future. I focus only on the national team.
“I can not say that now. The transfer window will be open in a month, then we’ll see what happens.”
Liverpool FC signed Brazil international Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco earlier in the summer transfer window.
The Reds finished in fourth spot in the Premier League table last term to secure their continued participation in the Premier League.
The Merseyside outfit lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last month.
