The Reds are understood to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his squad.
The German manager is looking to add to his side to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season after their fourth-placed finish last term.
Liverpool FC have already wrapped up a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Fabinho from Monaco, and they are also believed to be closing in on the signing of attacker Nabil Fekir from Lyon.
However, former Reds midfielder believes that it is important that the Reds also look to try and bring in a new shot-stopper and central defender before next season.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Murphy said: “I still think the keeper thing needs addressing and I think it will be addressed, and maybe another centre-back. But in terms of attacking areas I think they’re alright.
“Strength in depth is a question mark maybe, in terms of when you look at the benches of United and City. If you look at United’s front six it’s incredible really. But I’m pleased. They’re close.”
Liverpool FC finished fourth in the Premier League table last season and were beaten in the Champions League final by Real Madrid.
The Reds are still searching for their first piece of silverware since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in the autumn of 2015, when he was brought in as Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor.
