Insider: Liverpool FC have made contact about signing 26-year-old
Liverpool FC are keen to sign Xherdan Shaqiri this summer from Stoke City, says Gabriele Marcotti
Liverpool FC have made contact with Stoke City about the possibility of signing Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, according to transfer insider Gabriele Marcotti.
The Reds are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to try and strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Liverpool FC were thought to be closing in on the signing of attacker Nabil Fekir from Lyon last weekend but a move failed to materialise.
The Merseyside outfit are naturally being linked with a host of attacking players this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to try and at least partly fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho, who joined FC Barcelona in January.
The 26-year-old Shaqiri has been touted as a target for the Reds due to the fact that he is likely to be available on a cut-price deal due to Stoke City’s relegation from the Premier League.
And reporter Marcotti has confirmed that Liverpool FC are indeed interested in signing the Switzerland international this summer.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Marcotti said: “There has been contact.
“Shaqiri brings a different toolset to the table than Fekir. He is settled in the Premier League.
“If you’re looking for an alternative option, Liverpool would be adding depth rather than adding a star.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season and reached the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.
