Lucas Torreira replies when asked if he’s signing for Arsenal
Lucas Torreira labels Arsenal as one of the biggest clubs in the world after being linked with the Gunners
Lucas Torreira has labelled Arsenal as one of the biggest clubs in the world but insists that he doesn’t know if he’ll be joining the Gunners this summer.
The Uruguay midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to The Emirates in recent days as Unai Emery looks to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
Arsenal completed their second signing of the summer last week when they tied up a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club.
Torreira, 22, currently plays for Italian side Sampdoria and he has been strongly linked with a move to The Emirates in the last few weeks.
However, the player himself – who is currently on international duty with Uruguay at the World Cup – has insisted that he is not expecting a transfer to be confirmed before the end of the tournament in Russia.
Torreira is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror after Uruguay’s win over Saudi Arabia: “Yes I know Arsenal is a good team – one of the biggest in the world – but right now I am wearing the shirt of my country and my focus is the national team.
“After the tournament is over it will all be clear but I am not looking at that moment yet.
“Now I am just feeling very good and very happy for the victory. I am happy for the moment the team is having as a group after getting to the next round.”
Arsenal are looking to bring in a number of new signings this summer as Emery looks to stamp his authority on the squad at The Emirates.
The north London side finished in sixth place and without a trophy in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge last term.
