Roy Keane instructs Man United how to get best out of Paul Pogba
The Man United legend believes Paul Pogba plays is at his best in a three-man midfield
Roy Keane believes Paul Pogba needs help in midfield if the France star is going to thrive in the Manchester United team.
The Red Devils star helped France to ease to a 1-0 win over Peru in their second group game in the World Cup on Thursday evening.
Pogba has played a key role in both of the victories over Australia and Peru to help Didier Deschamps’ side underline their World Cup ambitions.
The Manchester United record signing endured a frustrating second half of the 2017-18 Premier League season following his return from a hamstring problem.
Pogba was the subject of criticism from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who was unhappy with the Frenchman’s discipline in the middle of the park.
The 25-year-old appeared to struggle when he partnered Nemanja Matic as part of a duo and Pogba looked more effective when Mourinho implemented a three-man midfield.
Former Manchester United captain Keane believes Pogba needs at two midfielders alongside him to have an influence on games.
“I know we’re all pretty critical, but I really like him, I think he’s a top player,” Keane said on ITV.
“His form has not been great the last year or two, but I still think the dynamics are on Manchester United in helping him.
“I think he needs a couple of men next to him to help him along.
“We all need a help in hand and I don’t think he’s had it in the last year or two.”
Manchester United re-signed Pogba in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window after Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Pogba has won the Europa League and the League Cup since his return to Manchester United.
