Manchester United and Chelsea FC are likely to have to pay as much as £50m if they want to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

The Belgian defender’s future at White Hart Lane has been a source of uncertainty recently due to his lack of playing time for Spurs last term.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move to sign the centre-half this summer as the Red Devils look to bolster their defensive options this summer.

Chelsea FC have also been touted as a possible destination for the 29-year-old defender as his future continues to be a source of speculation this summer.

Now though, Sky Sports reporter Solhekol has warned that both of the clubs are likely to have to shell out as much as £50m if they want to tempt Spurs into selling this summer.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Solhekol said: “Man United and Chelsea FC are looking at a £50m player.”

Manchester United have already begun their summer recruitment drive by signing Brazilian midfielder Fred and young Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot this week.

Chelsea FC, meanwhile, are yet to announce any new signings after the Blues ended up fifth in the Premier League and won the FA Cup last season.
