The Red Devils endured something of a disappointing campaign last season when they ended up in second place in the Premier League table and without a trophy in Jose Mourinho’s second term in charge.
Manchester United began their summer recruitment drive last week by wrapping up deals to bring both Brazilian midfielder Fred and Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot to Old Trafford.
However, Manchester United are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for the title next season.
And former Red Devils goalkeeper Van der Sar would like to see the Red Devils wrap up some quality signings this summer.
Van der Sar is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “Hopefully United can catch up. [They] finished second, lost the FA Cup final.
“This year they need another two, three signings to stay a little bit more on that level with City than this year.”
Manchester United missed out on the chance to win a trophy last season when they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since their famous final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
