Jose Mourinho believes that Fred will end up being a vital player in his Manchester United team after the Red Devils finally confirmed the signing of the Brazilian on Thursday.

The Red Devils unveiled the midfielder as a Manchester United player after they were able to strike a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk to bring him to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old becomes Manchester United’s second official signing of the summer transfer window after the Red Devils tied up a deal to bring young right-back Diogo Dalot to the club from FC Porto earlier this month.

Fred joins Manchester United after having helped Shakhtar Donetsk to win three league titles in Ukraine, and Mourinho could not hide his delight at seeing the Red Devils get the deal over the line.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Mourinho said: “Fred will complement our other midfielders’ qualities, which we need; his creative brain and passing vision will give us another dimension to our game.

“I am very happy he is joining our club and I believe our players know how important he can be in our team.”

Manchester United are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to build a squad capable of winning the title next term.

The Red Devils ended up in second place in the table and without a trophy last season in Mourinho’s second campaign in charge at Old Trafford, and they have not won the Premier League since 2013.
