The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old Wales international after he admitted that he would be considering his future at Real Madrid in the wake of the Champions League final.
There has not been any official confirmation of Manchester United’s interest in Bale, but the Red Devils are likely to be interested in signing the former Tottenham star if he does indeed become available this summer.
Now, Sunday Times journalist Castles has stated his belief that Manchester United chief Ed Woodward would be keen on a move to bring Bale to Old Trafford this summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “Bale is the kind of level of player Woodward wants to bring to the club. He is a hugely marketable player.
“He is confident of getting the Glazers to approve the huge finances involved in getting him.”
Manchester United confirmed their first signing of the summer on Tuesday when they announced a deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Fred to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Red Devils are likely to be on the lookout for a number of other signings this summer as they bid to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League title next season.
Manchester United finished second and 19 points behind champions Manchester City last season, and missed out on a trophy when they lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea FC.
