Jose Mourinho sends text to struggling Man United star – report
Jose Mourinho has sent a text message to David De Gea following the Man United star's stuttering form, say reports
Jose Mourinho has sent a text message to David De Gea following his stuttering form for Spain at the World Cup, according to reports in the British media.
Metro is reporting that Mourinho has contacted his Manchester United goalkeeper to offer him some support amid suggestions that he could be dropped for Spain’s next game.
Spain were not in particularly convincing form at the World Cup in the group stage, as they won just one of their three games and conceded five goals.
De Gea was in the firing line after his uncharacteristic error allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to net during the 3-3 draw with Portugal earlier in the month.
There have been suggestions that De Gea could be set to be dropped by Spain manager Fernando Hierro in recent days as they prepare for their knockout clash against Russia on Sunday night.
The same Metro report claims that Mourinho has now contacted De Gea via text message, although exactly what was said has not been revealed.
De Gea has earned a reputation as one of European football’s finest goalkeepers following his brilliant form for Manchester United in recent seasons.
The 27-year-old has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but the Red Devils will be keen to keep him at Old Trafford.
