Journalist dampens Man United’s hopes of signing PSG star
Marco Verratti is unlikely to be sold by PSG this summer, according to Duncan Castles
Marco Verratti is unlikely to be sold by Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to reporter Duncan Castles.
The Red Devils are thought to be on the lookout for significant reinforcements this summer and Verratti has been touted as a possible transfer target for Jose Mourinho’s side in recent days.
The Italy international has been linked with a potential transfer to Old Trafford this summer as Mourinho looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of his third season in charge at the club.
However, Sunday Times journalist Castles has now poured cold water on claims that PSG could be willing to cash-in on Verratti this summer, as he suggested that a move to Manchester United for the Italian is looking unlikely.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “Verratti isn’t a player PSG want to move on. Verratti wanted to leave last summer.
“He was told by the owners there was no way he would be allowed to leave the club. I’d be surprised if they were now offering him.”
Manchester United are understood to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.
The Red Devils ended up in second place in the Premier League table but without a trophy last season in what ended up being a disappointing campaign for Mourinho’s men.
Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
