Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth has confirmed that Manchester United have the option to extend Anthony Martial’s contract by a further year.

The 22-year-old’s situation at Old Trafford has been something of a source of speculation in recent weeks due to his lack of playing time at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho last term.

Indeed, Martial’s agent recently claimed that the striker is keen on a move away from Old Trafford this summer as he looks to resolve his future.

The France international’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, but Sheth has confirmed that the Red Devils do have the option to extend by a further year.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “Martial has one year left on his current but they have an option for a final year because Man United are wary of players going into the final year of their contract.”

Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to try and bolster their squad ahead of next season.

The Red Devils have already completed the signings of both full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred this summer as Mourinho looks to build a team capable of winning the Premier League title next season.

Manchester United have not won the Premier League since 2013.
