Bryan Robson: Man United youngster has something special
Bryan Robson backs Marcus Rashford to develop into a quality player for both Man United and England
Bryan Robson says Marcus Rashford has “something special” and he is backing the Manchester United youngster to be a star in the seasons to come.
Rashford has been in solid form for Manchester United since breaking into the first team under Louis van Gaal, although he did find his playing time under Jose Mourinho last season to be somewhat restricted.
The England international has earned a call-up to this summer’s World Cup squad and he was a second half substitute in the Three Lions’ 2-1 win over Tunisia in their group opener last week.
Manchester United legend Robson is a keen admirer of Rashford and he is expecting him to be a star for both club and country in the coming years.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Robson said: “I was at a United event with Marcus and there were a lot of questions about flash footballers buying flash cars.
“I asked Marcus what he’d bought and he said a Mercedes. I thought, that’s good enough for me. A good car, not a flash Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche. He’s another who may have got his chance by fortune but deserves his place.
“We have seen young strikers come in and do well at United, only to disappear, but Marcus had that special something that made you believe he was here to stay and I think he’ll be with United and England for years to come.
“Rashford’s understanding of the forward position has been helped by the fact he started out as a winger and he fits perfectly into Southgate’s system.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to try and assemble a team capable of winning the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils finished in second place last term and without a trophy in what was Mourinho’s second full campaign in charge of the club.
Manchester United have so far signed Fred and Diogo Dalot.
