Man United deadlock in talks to sign quality 29-year-old – report
Manchester United are still working on a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld from Spurs, say reports
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have reached a deadlock in talks about the transfer of defender Toby Alderweireld, according to reports in the British media.
The Evening Standard is reporting that Spurs are refusing to budge from their valuation of the Belgian centre-half, which is believed to be more than £55m.
According to the same story, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho remains confident that Manchester United will be able to conclude a deal for the defender this summer.
The article also claims that Manchester United’s position is strengthened by the fact that Spurs may hold an interest in signing striker Anthony Martial from the Old Trafford club this summer.
Manchester United are reportedly already prepared to offer Alderweireld a five-year contract which would be worth more than £120,000 a week.
The same article says that Tottenham are indeed willing to sell the 29-year-old defender this summer but only for the right price.
His current contract at Tottenham is due to expire in 2020 but he can leave for just £25m next year if he does not agree fresh terms with the north London club.
Manchester United completed their first two summer signings last week after wrapping up deals for Fred and Diogo Dalot.
