Cristiano Ronaldo is more likely to return to Manchester United rather than remain at Real Madrid this season, according to a report.

Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Manchester United are closing in on a potential deal to sign the Portugal international in the current transfer window.

The same article states that Croatia duo Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic discussed Ronaldo’s future after Thursday night’s 3-0 win against Argentina and the former Spurs man hinted the Portugal international is unlikely to remain at Real Madrid.

According to the same story, Modric suggested Ronaldo’s preferred destination would be a return to Manchester United rather than a switch to Ligue 1 champions Pari Saint-Germain this summer.

Ronaldo won his fourth Champions League title with Real Madrid last month after los Blancos were 3-1 winners against Premier League side Liverpool FC in the Kiev showpiece.

The Real Madrid star scored a hat-trick in Portugal’s 3-3 draw with Spain in their World Cup opener before Ronaldo netted the winner in a 1-0 win against Morocco in their second group game.

Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid from Manchester United in an £80m deal in 2009 to set a new world record.
