Cristiano Ronaldo could be in line to make a sensational return to Manchester United this summer, according to a report in Italy.

Italian media outlet Libero, as quoted by the Sun, is reporting that Ronaldo is set to move back to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

The same article states that Manchester United do face competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain for Ronaldo’s signature.

According to the Sun, Ronaldo has already made an “irreversible” decision to leave Real Madrid after nine seasons at The Bernabeu.

The Portugal international has spoke about his discontent at Real Madrid following their Champions League triumph last month.

Ronaldo was quick to speak out in the media about his unhappiness at The Bernabeu despite winning a fourth European crown at los Blancos.

The Portugal international moved to Real Madrid in a then world record £80m deal to La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2009.

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cup triumphs during his six seasons at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old scored a sensational hat-trick in Portugal’s 3-3 draw with Spain in their World Cup opener, including a brilliant free-kick in added time to secure a point.
