Diogo Dalot has spoken of his delight to move to Manchester United from FC Porto on Wednesday evening.

The Portuguese talent completed a reported £17.5m transfer to the Red Devils from Jose Mourinho’s former club to become Manchester United’s second summer signing.

Dalot has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at the 20-time English champions as he looks to compete with Antonio Valencia for a right-back spot next term.

The 19-year-old is also capable of playing at left-back in the Manchester United given Mourinho’s reluctance to use England international Luke Shaw.

Dalot made eight appearances in the 2017-18 season in the FC Porto team to underline his reputation as a rising talent in Portuguese football.

The teenager was part of the FC Porto side that lost 5-0 to Liverpool FC on aggregate in the Champions League round of 16 last term.

Speaking to Man United’s website about his transfer to the 20-time English champions, Dalot said:

“I know that this is one of the best clubs in the world and it is unbelievable to be here and I hope to achieve great things.”

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term above Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to bitter rivals Eden Hazard in the FA Cup final at Wembley after Eden Hazard netted the winner from the penalty spot.
