New Man United signing sends message to Red Devils supporters
Fred is thrilled to complete a move to Manchester United from Shakhtar Donetsk this summer
Fred has spoken of his delight to finally complete a move to Manchester United this summer.
The Brazil international concluded a £52m switch to the Red Devils from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk on Friday evening.
Fred will be tasked with improving Jose Mourinho’s options in the middle of the park as Manchester United look to challenge Manchester City next term.
The South American was linked with Premier League champions Manchester City but the Citizens didn’t act upon their interest in January.
England international Michael Carrick has retired and has become part of the Portuguese head coach’s staff at Old Trafford.
Marouane Fellaini’s contract situation is still unresolved ahead of the World Cup and could be available on a free transfer.
The new Manchester United signing sent a message to Red Devils supporters after he became the seventh Brazilian to complete a move to Old Trafford.
“I want to thank all of the Manchester United fans, even now, just as I am signing,” Fred told Man United’s website. “So many of them reached out to me and asked me to join the club and that really meant a lot to me.
”All I can say to you in return is that I’m going to run my hardest and work my hardest to make history for the club and the fans.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson led the Red Devils to top-flight glory.
Jose Mourinho has already signed Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot in a £17m deal from FC Porto in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United ended up in second spot in the Premier League table last term.
