Manchester United will finalise a move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred next week, according to a report in England.
The Sun, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign the 25-year-old in a £52m deal plus add ons.
The same article states that Manchester United have a hit a snag in negotiations and the transfer won’t be completed until next week.
According to the same story, Jose Mourinho is desperate to get the deal sorted out before Freds jets off to the World Cup with the Brazil national team.
The South American midfielder is expected to replace Michael Carrick in the Manchester United team after the former England international retired at the end of the current campaign.
Manchester United signed Serbia international Nemanja Matic in a £40m deal from bitter rivals Chelsea FC in the 2017 summer transfer window.
However, Paul Pogba looked exposed as part of a midfield pair with Matic and the addition of Fred should help to shore up Mourinho’s options in the middle of the park.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but ended up 19 points behind runaway champions Manchester City.
