Insider backs Man United’s bid to make ‘tremendous’ signing
ESPN FC reporter Gabriele Marcotti backs Manchester United's bid to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred this summer
Fred would be a “tremendous” addition to the Manchester United squad this summer, according to Gabriele Marcotti.
The Brazil international has been linked with a move to the Premier League on a regular basis over the past 12 months or so.
Premier League champions Manchester City were thought to be leading the race to sign the Brazilian midfielder in the January transfer window.
However, Pep Guardiola looks set to sign Napoli holding midfielder Jorginho ahead of the Shakthar Donetsk man.
Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign the 25-year-old from the Ukrainian club in the current transfer window.
The Red Devils need to strengthen their options in the middle of the park given Michael Carrick has hung up his boots and Marouane Fellaini could leave on a free transfer this summer.
Serie A expert and ESPN FC reporter Marcotti believes Fred would be an excellent addition to the Manchester United team.
“They are getting a tremendous midfielder,” Marcotti told ESPN FC.
“He was outstanding in the Champions League against Man City and Napoli. He is more of defensive midfielder. He has tremendous playmaking ability as well. He isn’t afraid to put in a tackle.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but ended up 19 points behind champions Manchester City.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season following Eden Hazard’s winner at the home of English football.
