Jose Mourinno told Man United will have to spend €100m on 29-year-old
Duncan Castles believes Man United will have to spend €100m on Real Madrid star Gareth Bale
Manchester United will have to pay in the region of €100 to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, Duncan Castles has warned.
The Red Devils have been regularly linked with a move to sign the Wales international over the past few transfer windows.
However, there is a sense that Bale could be ready to leave The Bernabeu this summer after five seasons in the Spanish capital.
Bale was out of favour throughout most of the 2017-18 season but the Welsh forward scored a flurry of goals to end the season on a high note.
The 29-year-old came off the bench to score twice in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win against Liverpool FC in the Champions League final in Kiev last month.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but need to make a 19 point gap on champions Manchester City.
Reporter Castles believes Manchester United might be able to negotiate with Real Madrid despite their 100m Euros.
“Real Madrid will ask for 100m Euros. Man United might be able to negotiate it down,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“Bale is on 12m Euros. He would be in the top wages alongside Pogba and Sanchez. He won’t have money to reinforce everywhere like defence and midfield that he planned to.”
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley after Eden Hazard scored the winner from the penalty spot.
The Red Devils ended the season without a trophy in Jose Mourinho’s second season in charge.
