Insider questions whether Man United need to sign Gareth Bale
Serie A expert Gabriele Marcotti questions whether Man United need to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale
Manchester United don’t need Gareth Bale following Alexis Sanchez’s move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window, according to Gabriele Marcotti.
The Red Devils signed the Chile international in a swap deal from Arsenal earlier this year as Arsenal cashed in on the former FC Barcelona striker.
Sanchez has struggled to impress at Manchester United since his lucrative move after the South American scored two goals and made three assists in 12 Premier League games.
Manchester United have been linked with a potential swoop to sign Bale in a summer deal given the Wales international’s dissatisfaction in the Spanish capital.
The Red Devils have had a long-term interest in the 29-year-old attacking midfielder since his move to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in an £85.7m deal in 2013.
Serie A expert Marcotti offers a reason why Manchester United won’t sign Sanchez this summer.
“Man United can afford Bale but they don’t have infinite funds,” Marcotti told ESPN FC.
“If they are going to sort out their defence and get another midfielder, they will want good ones who are really expensive in the current market.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson led the Red Devils to title glory in his final season in charge.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season thanks to Eden Hazard’s winner.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table in 2017-18.
