Manchester United have been urged to complete a statement signing by bringing Gareth Bale to Old Trafford from Real Madrid by Ian McGarry.

The Red Devils are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer but have already begun their transfer spending by wrapping up deals to sign Fred and Diogo Dalot.

Jose Mourinho’s side have been heavily linked with a move to bring Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to Manchester United in recent days after the Wales international hinted that he is to consider his future this summer.

Manchester United have already boosted their attacking line-up recently by concluding deals to sign Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in recent transfer windows.

However, football consultant McGarry feels that the Red Devils could do with another big-name addition this summer, and says that Bale would fit the bill.

Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, McGarry said: “A statement signing would be Gareth Bale. Just as important or more important would be a leading centre-half. He [Mourinho] hasn’t achieved that.”

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and missed out on a trophy after they were beaten by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final.

The Red Devils will be looking to win the Premier League for the first time since 2013 next season.
