Jose Mourinho has ordered Manchester United to sign FC Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba, according to a report in Spain.

Spanish media outlet Don Balon, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that the Manchester United boss wants Alba to solve the club’s long-running problems at left-back next season.

The same article states that Manchester United could find it difficult to lure the Spanish full-back to Old Trafford given Alba’s insistence that he is content at FC Barcelona.

Manchester United have already signed Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot in a £17m deal from European giants FC Porto to improve their options in defence.

However, the teenager has limited experience in top flight football after the Portuguese starlet made eight appearances in the 2017-18 season for FC Porto.

Manchester United have relied upon Ashley Young to fill the left-back role after Luke Shaw’s ineffective performances under Mourinho so far.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Old Trafford outfit.

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but ended up 19 points behind runaway champions Manchester City.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final last term.
