Reporter Duncan Castles confirms Manchester United are still in the market to sign a centre-half and a left-back
Duncan Castles believes Manchester United will need to sign a top centre-half and left-back even if Gareth Bale moves to Old Trafford.
The Wales international has been widely tipped to move to Manchester United in the current transfer window.
The Red Devils are thought to be one of two contenders to sign the 29-year-old to bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options.
Manchester United have also been linked with a potential swoop to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld.
The 20-time English champions have also been targeting Juventus full-back Alex Sandro to improve their full-back options.
Reporter Castles warned Manchester United that two top defenders are required this summer if the Red Devils are to overhaul Man City.
“They still need a starting left-back, who will be expensive,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“They need a starting centre-half leader. You add Gareth Bale on top of that, it’s a lot of money for one summer.”
Manchester United lost 1-0 to bitter rivals Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley after Phil Jones’ reckless challenge afforded Eden Hazard the chance to score the winner from the penalty spot.
