Media website Fussball Info, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Red Devils are looking at options to replace Matteo Darmian ahead of the new season.
The same article states that Manchester United expect the Italy international to move to Serie A champions Juventus in the current transfer window.
According to the same story, Jose Mourinho will look to bring in some cover at full-back to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new season.
And the report suggests that Newcastle full-back Mbabu could fit the bill as a player capable of providing cover in the problem position.
However, AC Milan are also interested in the 23-year-old defender after he impressed in Young Boys’ first title success in 30 years during a season-long loan in Switzerland.
He scored two goals in 33 games for Young Boys to help the club win the Swiss title ahead of Basel.
Manchester United signed Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot in a £17m deal from FC Porto in their second deal of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have also signed Fred in a £52m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk to improve their options in the middle of the park.
