Mourinho told to forget about Man United signing 32-year-old
The Liverpool FC legend believes Manchester United won't sign Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic
Steve Nicol doesn’t expect Mario Mandzukic to move to Manchester United this summer.
The Croatia international has been touted as a potential option to improve Jose Mourinho’s attacking options.
The experienced striker netted 10 goals in 38 games in all competitions in the 2017-18 season at Juventus.
However, the Croatian striker was unable to hold down a regular starting spot at the Turin side.
Mandzukic netted 34 times in 127 games in all competitions over the past three seasons since his move from Atletico Madrid.
He has spent previous spells at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg after leaving Croatia in 2010.
Former Liverpool FC defender Nicol doesn’t expect Manchester United to sign Mandzukic in the current transfer window.
“He made his name as a centre forward but at Juve moved out to a wide position,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“It doesn’t make any sense. I don’t see how he plays at Man United. He shouldn’t play ahead of Martial or Rashford on the wing, and he won’t play ahead of Lukaku.”
Manchester United finished in second spot in the Premier League table last term to secure a Champions League spot for the second successive season.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley following Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
