Jose Mourinho told 29-year-old would improve Man United
West Ham legend Stuart Pearce backs Man United's pursuit of Marko Arnautovic
Stuart Pearce believes Marko Arnautovic has the talent to succeed at Manchester United.
The West Ham forward has been linked with something of a surprise move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho was spotted watching the Austria international in their recent 1-0 win against Russia last week to fuel speculation about a potential move.
Arnautovic became West Ham’s record signing following his £25m move to the Hammers from Stoke City last summer.
The 29-year-old forward scored 11 goals and made six assists in his first Premier League campaign at the London Stadium.
Arnautovic worked with Mourinho for a brief spell at Serie A giants Inter Milan before he moved to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.
The Austrain forward is recognised as a natural talent but his attitude and consistency have attracted criticism during spells at Stoke and West Ham.
However, former Hammers defender Pearce believes Arnautovic could be a hit at Manchester United if the east London side opt to sell their record signing.
“He has got the ability to be in the top four in this country without a doubt,” Pearce told talkSPORT. “It’s just whether West Ham want to sell him.”
West Ham are rumoured to be demanding a transfer fee in the region of £50m for Arnautovic, which would see the Hammers double their money.
The east London side managed to avoid relegation to the Championship thanks in part to Arnautovic’s goals.
