Manchester United want to complete a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur before the start of the World Cup on Thursday, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are keen on tying up a deal for the Spurs defender as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his defensive options at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move to bring Alderweireld to Old Trafford in recent days and the latest reports say that Manchester United are keen to complete a deal as soon as possible.

According to the same report, Mourinho has identified the Spurs defender as his next prime target, and that talks have already begun between the two Premier League clubs.

The same story says that the 29-year-old is expected to cost in the region of £50m as Mourinho looks to significantly bolster his defensive options at Old Trafford this summer.

The article also claims that the Belgian defender has been stalling over a new contract at White Hart Lane because he feels that he deserves to be paid higher wages by the north London club.

Manchester United have already signed Diogo Dalot and Fred so far this summer.
