Mourinho told Alderweireld easily better than Man United flop
ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno backs Manchester United's pursuit of Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld would be a better addition to the Manchester United squad than Victor Lindelof, ESPN FC pundit Alejandro Moreno has claimed.
The Red Devils are rumoured to be in the market to sign a new centre-half in the summer transfer window following a mixed 2017-18 season.
Manchester United signed Lindelof in a £30m deal from Portuguese side Benfica last summer but the Sweden international struggled.
Tottenham are rumoured to have offered Alderweireld a deal worth £130,000 a week during the 2017-18 season but the Manchester United target wants £180,000 a week.
If the Spurs star was to get the contract he desires, Alderweireld would be the best paid player ahead of England stars Harry Kane and Dele Alli, as well as playmaker Christian Eriksen.
Alderweireld’s current deal will expire at the end of next season but Spurs do have the option to extend the Belgium international’s contract by an extra 12 months.
ESPN FC pundit Moreno believes Alderweireld would be a great addition to the Manchester United side ahead of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.
“He would be a better signing than Lindelof,” Moreno told ESPN FC.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term but missed out on silverware after a 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
