Duncan Castles gives latest Man United transfer update on Toby Alderweireld
Reporter Duncan Castles reveals Toby Alderweireld doesn't have a concrete offer from Manchester United
Toby Alderweireld doesn’t have a concrete offer from Manchester United, Duncan Castles has claimed.
The 29-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur after the Belgian star made just three appearances in 2018 so far.
Spurs are rumoured to have offered Alderweireld a deal worth £130,000 a week during the 2017-18 season but the Manchester United target wants £180,000 a week.
Alderweireld’s current deal will expire at the end of next season but Spurs do have the option to extend the Belgium international’s contract by an extra 12 months.
If the north London side do so, former Atletico Madrid defender Alderweireld would be available next summer in a cut price deal of £25m.
Manchester United have been linked with a host of different centre-halves over the past few weeks in the summer transfer window.
Sunday Times reporter Castles believes Alderweireld could miss out on a move to Manchester United due to his excessive wage demands.
“He is on the recruitment list for Man United but he is not at the top of the list party because of the price and the wages involved,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“At present, he is in a difficult situation. He doesn’t have a firm offer from Man United or anywhere else.”
Manchester United finished in second spot in the Premier League table last term to secure a Champions League spot for the second successive season.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley following Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
