Mario Gotze opens up about Liverpool FC transfer talk
Mario Gotze refuses to rule out the prospect of a transfer to Liverpool FC in the future
Mario Gotze has refused to rule out the possibility of a reunion with his former manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool FC this summer.
Klopp and Gotze worked together during their time at Borussia Dortmund before the Germany international ended up signing for Bayern Munich.
Gotze has since returned to Dortmund but has struggled with form and fitness issues and missed out on a place in the German World Cup squad this year.
The 26-year-old has now revealed that Klopp tried to bring him to Liverpool FC when he decided to leave Bayern Munich but was unsuccessful in his bid.
However, the Germany international has refused to rule out a potential reunion with Klopp at Liverpool FC in the future.
Speaking during the DAZN documentary ‘Being Mario Gotze’, he said: “I decided to leave Bayern and Jurgen Klopp was interested in getting me to Liverpool. And I was also interested in working with him again.
“It’s still existing. He is a world-class coach and that’s why it’s always an option. I decided to join Borussia Dortmund, but it was not a decision against Liverpool or Jurgen Klopp. But on the contrary.”
Liverpool FC have already begun their summer recruitment drive by wrapping up a deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Fabinho to Anfield from Monaco.
The Reds are thought to be on the lookout for a number of other new signings this summer as Klopp looks to build a squad capable of winning the title next season after their fourth-placed finish this term.
