Mesut Ozil demands Arsenal shirt number change – report
Mesut Ozil will ask Arsenal to be given the number 10 shirt after Jack Wilshere's departure from the club
Mesut Ozil will ask Arsenal to be given the number 10 shirt after Jack Wilshere’s departure from the club this summer, according to reports in the British media.
Wilshere confirmed that he will be leaving his boyhood club this summer after new manager Unai Emery deemed him to be surplus to requirements at The Emirates.
The midfielder will leave Arsenal at the end of the month after 17 years at his boyhood club as he seeks a new employer to bring the best out of him during the prime years of his career.
Wilshere’s exit will free up the number 10 shirt in the Gunners squad and Ozil will apparently request to be given his favourite number following the midfielder’s departure.
Ozil has worn the number 11 shirt for Arsenal since his move to the club from Real Madrid back in 2013, but it is well known that 10 is his preferred number.
According to the same story, the Germany international wants to wear the number 10 shirt for Arsenal due to advertising purposes.
That’s because his sponsor Adidas believe that the number 10 shirt is the most marketable number a footballer can wear.
Meanwhile, Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the summer last week when they announced a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
