Nigel Winterburn encouraged by Arsenal summer signings
Nigel Winterburn says he has been satisfied by Arsenal's dealings in the transfer market this summer
Nigel Winterburn has revealed that he is pleased with Arsenal’s transfer business so far this summer under Unai Emery.
The north London side officially confirmed their second signing of the summer last week when they announced a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
The move for Leno came after the Gunners snapped up defender Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer as Emery moved quickly to bolster his options at the back ahead of his first season at the club.
Arsenal are thought to be on the lookout for a number of other new signings this summer as the Gunners look to try and assemble a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
The Gunners finished in sixth place last term and without a trophy after a campaign to forget in Arsene Wenger’s final season in charge.
And Arsenal legend Winterburn says he has been satisfied with the Gunners’ dealings in the transfer window so far this summer as they look to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next term.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Winterburn said: “It is positive so far, what we’re seeing.
“A goalkeeper, a centre-half and a defensive midfielder all coming in. Those are the three positions we needed strengthening.”
Arsenal have not won the title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2004.
